Your comments on the resignation of Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda -- the second Japanese leader to resign abruptly this year -- and the biggest challenge facing Japan.

The new Japanese prime minister (from the LDP) is most likely to face uncooperative reactions from the opposition -- Democratic Party. The stubborn Democratic Party has been rejecting Fukuda's requests to find a way to come together at one point.

How he/she can persuade or fight them will be the challenge.

At present, the Japanese economy is slipping toward a recession as result of rising oil and food prices. In addition, Japan is facing political uncertainty/deadlock where the opposition parties control the upper house.

In an effort to solve these problems, Japan needs to assign the best figure as Prime Minister who has the ability to plan an economic stimulus package to drive its economy and who can work together with the opposition parties to make his economic plan succeed.

Japan will suffer economic stagnation. Uncertain political conditions can drive Japanese people to have a lack of confidence in their new leader.

This will affect its strategic position in East Asia. China can replace her anyway. This will affect other countries, including Indonesia.

Japan deserves a charismatic leader, one who can lead the country (and the lower and upper houses) in an inspirational and positive way.

It is sad to see such a great nation drifting along without good leadership.

I think the biggest problem facing Japan, of course, is the economy and the next is how the power struggle over government positions will be settled. Japan needs a good leader who is able to solve all the existing problems.
