INDONESIA: Local authorities have not yet located a Polish tourist, Robert Zsupuru, who reportedly went missing Aug. 29 while diving at Cenderawasih Bay National Park near Matas Island.
Head of the national park Kemal Abbas said Zsupuru, along with 10 other Polish tourists, obtained licenses and official permits to dive until Sept. 4. The group left for the Auri Islands, near Matas Island, on Aug. 27.
"On their third day at that location, all of them went diving, but since that day, Robert has not been found," Kemal said.
According to the search and rescue (SAR) team, Robert had most likely run out of oxygen while diving at a depth of greater than 80 meters.
The Wondama Bay Police, together with the Forest Police, local residents and Zsupuru's friends, conducted an extensive search, but failed to find him.
The 1,453,500-hectare Cenderawasih Bay park is a popular tourist destination, home to some 150 species of coral reef and 209 species of fish.--JP
