The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has given dishonorable discharges to two state prosecutors convicted for extortion, Attorney General Hendarman Supandji announced Monday.

Hendarman, speaking in a hearing session with lawmakers at the House of Representatives building, said that both prosecutors was found guilty in extortion by the South Jakarta District Court and was sentenced to one year and eight months imprisonment.

Former state prosecutors Burdju Ronni Allan Felix and Cecep Sunarto were found guilty extorting former chief president of state-owned insurance company PT Jamsostek Ahmad Djunaidi. Budju and Cecep demanded Rp 550 million (US$59,400) from Ahmad, who was defending his corruption trial.

Hendarman, asked about the fate of non-active state prosecutor Urip Tri Gunawan, who have been convicted in bribery, said that the AGO was waiting for a permanent court decision to Urip.

Last week, Urip was sentenced to 20 years in jail for accepting US$660,000 bribe from Artalyta Suryani in a high profile corruption case, which also involved several top prosecutors. Urip has yet to decide whether to appeal for the verdict.

“We are still continuing internal investigation on other prosecutors’ involvement in Urip case. We are questioning witnesses, including Artalyta, and also considering the Corruption Court decision on the case,” said Hendarman, as quoted by Kompas.com. (dre)
