Fireworks maker arrested

TANGERANG: A fireworks maker was nabbed in his home in Pademangan last week during a police raid.

The perpetrator, identified as IBS, was caught in possession of some 7,000 firecrackers, in addition to raw materials and tools used in making fireworks, including two ounces of explosives.

IBS is currently in police custody, while the confiscated items were brought to the Tangerang police precinct for further investigation.

Sales of firecrackers usually spike during the Ramadan month, with users setting them off before dawn and after evening prayers.

The noise and danger caused by fireworks were at the center of two recent brawls among residents in Cempaka Putih and Petamburan, both in Central Jakarta. --JP
