How come you published such a shamefully partisan articleSamak's controversial decree"?
Why didn't you ask the Thai military chief directly to explain why the military wants to finish off his democratically formed government?

Region outlaws Ahmadiyah -- Sept. 1, Online
Is the governor empowered to do this? The joint ministerial decree only says that Ahmadiyah will "face charges", it does not say that it will (have to) be banned.

This is nothing more than sensationalism and a waste of time.
However, the central government is to blame by setting a bad/wrong precedent with its joint decree. Since when does a religious affair becomes a state affair, when Indonesia is not even a religious country? Or are we turning into one?

Well done Mr. Governor. Hope others will follow you by banning these conspirators.

Renegotiating Tangguh deal -- Aug. 29, p. 1
That's the good way, but the fact is that China is a big country. How can we renegotiate? The world knows that we Indonesian people are only clever when we sell our resources and take advantage from the process.
You realize that in this country rich in natural resources there are still many poor people because government officials only think how to put money into their own pockets.
The government is not interested in building human resources and developing our nature resources with our own technology. I think many Indonesians are clever but they are never given adequate opportunities to develop. The Indonesian government does not reward such people and therefore they just walk away to join other countries.
My suggestion is that we support SBY's effort to renegotiate the LNG and the mission must be accomplished. We hope there will be a win-win solution.
For the long term, why doesn't the government recall Indonesian people who are currently working in other countries and give them good facilities to develop our resources. And the government's officials should no longer cheat us like what they learned from Dutch colonialism.

The LNG contract that had been inked during the Megawati administration was already stupid. The negotiators didn't consider future events that might happen (although some economists had warned of that) such as an increase in the price of oil in the coming years due to an increase in demand from some large countries - and as of today, they are proven right.
So renegotiation is needed and in the future, if there is going to be any contract or deal regarding any natural resources with any country we must consider or take into account future expectations (predictions of what will happen in the future) so we will not lose our face (again) for not keeping our word.

Government's decision to renegotiate Tangguh price is a right policy. We look stupid if we accept the current contract. We will lose potential revenue from the oil and gas sector. I can't believe that for 25 years we will sell our gas less than market value.

This news serves more as a smear campaign to Megawati Soekarnoputri before next year's election rather than to serve the interests of the nation.

Maid tortured in Malaysia -- Sept. 1, Online
If this Malaysian woman or her husband was off from work for a few days, would their boss treat them cruelly the way they treated their maid?
Of course not, and overall, their salary is much better than the maid. Why not have compassion and empathy toward the maid? What a hierarchical society in Asia that enables abuse to happen among Asians themselves! There should be more equality ...Indonesia and Malaysia should talk more about that!
