The government has proposed to subsidize Rp 60.43 trillion of next year’s electricity costs.

Director General for Electricity and Energy Consumption J. Purwono said the proposed budget included the subsidy sum of the current fiscal year at Rp 61.33 trillion and 2007’s subsidy shortage of Rp 5.48 trillion, totaling together Rp 66.81 trillion.

“The total subsidy of the current fiscal year will be reduced by other calculations,” Purwono, was quoted by Tempo Interaktif to have told the Energy Commission at the House of Representatives on Monday.

He added that the calculations included electricity growth at 5.63 percent from the initial assumption of 6.72 percent, increasing gas price from US$3.47 to US$3.70, and the price of coal from 650 per kilogram to 750. (amr)
