JAKARTA: A taxi passenger identified as Herlina, 55, managed to escape a robbery attempt Saturday night, sustaining minor injuries in the process.
The Radio Dalam resident hailed the cab at Melawai in South Jakarta at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night.
When the driver, identified as Sonny, stopped the car on Jl. Petogogan I, an accomplice opened the back left passenger door, pointing a knife at Herlina's abdomen. The victim struggled to push the knife away, suffering several cuts in doing so.
She immediately escaped from the cab through the right door and ran screaming for help.
Nearby locals then came to her aid.
"We were just sitting around when we heard the screams. We immediately ran over and beat the thieves up," said Nanto, one of the locals, as reported on detik.com.
Sonny and his accomplice, identified as Erlan, were then taken, along with the taxi, to the nearby South Jakarta police station.
The cab was identified as a white Selebrity taxi with license plate number B 1774 IE. --JP

Bali Sept 2008
The local police warn people here for drive by thieves, so they have put on big banners that warn for pickpockets.
Of course the Bali police one of the smartest police force in the world put the warning up in only the Indonesian language. I guess because its most likely that only locals will be robbed. So putting it in English would probably not be understood by the locals.
Bali Police shame on you.
