BOGOR: One motorcycle thief was caught hiding in a tree while another got stuck in traffic after attempting to steal a cycle in Ciwaringin subdistrict, Bogor, on Monday.
The arrest took place after the police received a motorcycle theft report from a parking lot in Ciwaringin on Sunday. When the police went there Monday morning to check the crime scene, they heard a call for help, said Central Bogor Police chief Adj. Comr. Ade Yusuf Hidayat.
Apparently, Andri Prasetia and Rudi Salam were trying to steal another bike from the same place. The owner discovered them and started shouting.
The frightened Andri climbed a big tree and only came down after officers fired two warning shots. Rudi tried to flee on the stolen bike but was easily caught when he had to slow down in traffic.
Twelve motorbikes were later retrieved from the pair. Police said the two admitted they usually sell them at Rp 1.5 million each.
"They are dangerous criminals who don't care if they hurt their victims. They have sold hundreds of stolen motorbikes to a fence in Sukabumi. They have been jailed already several times," Yusuf said. --JP
