DENPASAR: The Denpasar mayoral administration will stage a number of tumpek religious rituals as part of its tourism agenda to attract more tourists to Bali's capital.

The tumpek rituals, which are performed twice in a year include, among others, a tumpek kandang cleansing ritual involving cattle, a tumpek bubuh ritual featuring plants, a tumpek landep ritual, which features sharp weapons, tumpek klurut, a ritual promoting affection and tumpek wayang, which features wayang puppets.

Denpasar mayoralty spokesman I Made Erwin Suryadharma Sena said Wednesday the agenda included commemoration rituals to be held by related institutions.

"The activities will be adjusted with the rituals so as to reflect their meaning," he said.

For example, during the tumpek kandang ritual, the Denpasar Livestock Husbandry Office will hold a Bali cow exhibition and competition, while the tumpek bubuh will feature an environmental and cleanliness exhibition, he added. -- JP
