Golkar names two candidates

PALU, C. Sulawesi: The Golkar Party has nominated two candidates to replace former deputy Palu mayor Suardin Suebo, who resigned to compete in the upcoming Donggala regental election.

"We have decided to nominate Andi Mulhanan Tombolotutu and Supratman Andi Agtas as deputy mayor candidates. We have also sent their names to the local legislative council, now we are waiting for their response," M Sidik Ponulele, the deputy chairman of the Golkar Party's Palu chapter, said Tuesday.

Andi is currently the chairman of Palu legislative council, while Supratman is the director of a Palu-owned company.

Suardin will compete for the regental election together with his running mate, Timuddin Bauwo.

Palu mayor Rusdy Mastura said Suardin's resignation is legal, saying that based on the regulation, Suardin's origin party could propose its successor.

Palu legislative council's deputy chairman Arifin Sunusi said the council had scheduled the deputy mayor's election for Sept. 15. -- JP
