JAKARTA: Bus drivers and ticket collectors will be required to have urine tests seven days before and after Idul Fitri to ensure passengers' safety during holiday travels.
The annual tests will take place in selected bus stations in the capital, including Lebakbulus station in South Jakarta, Kalideres in West Jakarta, and Pulogadung and Kampung Rambutan in East Jakarta.
"The urine tests will show whether a bus driver or a collector uses drugs or alcohol," said Hendah Sunugroho from the transportation agency, as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
Not all bus drivers will be tested.
"We may just test dozens of them as samples," he said, adding he hoped the test would prevent accidents.
He said those who failed the test would face penalties from the city police. Penalties will include restrictions on bus driving, Hendah added. -- JP
