Forum: Eight years after 9/11

Shouldn't the editorial on page six of the 11/9/08 edition read "Seven years after 9/11" instead of "Eight years after 9/11"?

After all it was seven years ago today...not eight.

SBY, JK blame Megawati -- Aug. 28, p. 13

I am with the VP on this issue, Megawati has made such blunder to make such weak, naive, contract with China.

I believe the contract itself should protect both sides but Megawati waived the common contractual clause.

So it is obvious that she again failed her people, just like what happened with the Indosat case, the Tanker case, and so many other blunders she has made.

This happens all the time in the business world. Seeking a renegotiation of contract would be the surest way to lose the world's confidence in Indonesia.

Unless there is a point in the contract which stipulates for a renegotiation, I'd say the government should honor its contract, for the sake of keeping our honor.

What if Indonesia put itself in China's shoes (e.g.Indonesia is the buyer and China is the supplier) and the same case happened?

What if the price becomes lower than what was agreed in the contract?

Does this case represent how our 'businessman' VP does business?

Thief shoots woman -- Sept. 5, p. 3

The woman concerned should leave her gold necklace at home when going to the Market. Such items are an attraction to thieves.

What is the point of showing off what valuables you have? This is like a mobile phone on display.

Stealing is the crime here, not the wearing of a necklace. The thief is responsible. He is wrong, not the women. You can ask yourself if it is smart to wear an expensive necklace in places like that, but ultimately it is up to the lady to decide.

I wouldn't go as far as to say the lady was asking for it -- more or less (as you suggest). Do you also believe that women who wear make-up or a skirts are asking to be raped?
