Rp 2b allocated for Idul Fitri

PALU, C. Sulawesi: The Central Sulawesi administration has allotted Rp 2 billion (US$212,700) from the 2008 provincial budget for this year's Idul Fitri bonus (THR).

Head of the General Affairs and Utility Bureau at the provincial secretariat, Yuliansyah, said about 6,000 provincial staff members, at junior and senior levels, would get a bonus of Rp 300,000 each.

"But this year the Idul Fitri bonus will only be distributed to permanent staff. Casual employees will not get a THR because of our limited budget," Yuliansyah said recently.

The Palu administration has decided not to allocate THR to its employees, instead distributing the money to disadvantaged people.

"We prefer to distribute funds for disadvantaged people instead of paying our staff the allowance," said Palu mayor Rusdy Mastura, adding the move was part of the Peduli Kaum Dhuafa charity program established two years ago.

Last year, the city allocated Rp 750 million to be distributed to disadvantaged people. -- JP
