A Serbian publisher says it will release a book by American writer Sherry Jones that previously had been withdrawn over protests from Islamic community.
The book "Jewel of Medina" is about Aisha, one of the Prophet Muhammad's wives.
It gained worldwide attention after publisher Random House canceled its publication, fearing an uproar in the Islamic world.
Serbian publisher BeoBook first released the book in August but withdrew it after local Islamic
leaders said it insulted Muhammad.
Beobook manager Aleksandar Jasic says the book will be back in sale Monday. He says unauthorized copies of the book have been sold by vendors in the streets since August.

Khadijah-your right, its because most Muslims dont treat thier faith like a religion they treat it more like a Gang. When a muslim meets someone new they always ask whats your religion. You never see any other faith asking someone whats is thier religion as soon as they meet.
i take for example when my neighbour moved in the first thing my driver said is he is a muslim.... its like its ok hes in our gang...i wasz thinking who cares !

I think you're right... there will always be people in this world who are ignorant to the truth... and I guess that's what faith is... ignorance.
One man's faith is not different to another's. You are wrong to say that your understanding of Islam is the truth or real understanding.

Just to share with you opinion from Serbian Government which shows that acts of individuals are by no means to be taken as acts of entire society:
Statement of Government of Serbia:
quote:
Government of Serbia regrets that, with the publishing of the book "Jewel of Medina", for commercial interests, religious feelings of Muslims are neglected and harmed.
Government of Serbia can not interfere in independent publishing, because freedom of speech and expression of personal views is guaranteed by The Constitution of Serbia and are foundation of every democratic society.
There more, sense of personal responsibility of the ones who make decisions which can have long-term negative consequences is even more important.

As a Muslim, I regret that so many fellow Muslims are so defensive. I don't see the necessity of pulling out the book from the market just because the worry of the 'uproars from Muslims', just as I also don't see the reason why Muslims should be angry if people write 'offensive things' about Muhammad.
If you're secured enough about your faith and you have enough knowledge about it, you shouldn't worry about any negative materials about it. People write books about the failure of church all the time and why Bible has changed a lot from its original scripture, yet there will always be devoted Christians and writers who'd write how divine Christianity is. As is with Islam. There will always be people who write how dangerous Qur'an is and how 'demented' Muhammad was, yet there will always be devoted Muslims and people who write how divine Islam is.
So if such 'hatred' book is ever published, I suggest to my fellow Muslims to not be 'uproared' and emotional. Let's just explain calmly, based on knowledge and fact, why such claims could be considered biased and therefore not true.
It's time for people to get past emotional response to such religious accusations.
