JAKARTA: Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutors on Tuesday demanded a five-year prison sentence for businessman Dedy Suwarsono for allegedly bribing House of Representatives lawmaker Bulyan Royan to win a tender to procure patrol boats for the Transportation Ministry earlier this year.
"The defendant is standing trial for giving or promising some Rp 1.69 billion (US$177,215) to member of (the House's) Commission V, Bulyan Royan, in the hopes that he, as a state official, would do something contradicting his responsibility," prosecutor Agus Salim read out at the Corruption Court.
He added the defendant had asked Bulyan to intervene in the procurement process of four patrol boats for the Directorate General for Sea Transportation so that his company, PT Bina Mina Karya Perkasa, could be appointed as the supplier for the project, valued at Rp 300 billion.
Bulyan has been named a suspect in the same case. -- JP
