10 HIV/AIDS infections per month

BANYUMAS, C. Java: An average of 10 people have become infected with HIV/AIDS every month in Banyumas regency, Central Java, while activists blamed officials for not doing anything to curb the spread of the disease.

"Banyumas administration has done nothing the prevent the disease from spreading. After Semarang, Banyumas is the city with the highest number of HIV/AIDS cases in Central Java," Yono, an HIV/AIDS activist, said on Wednesday.

As of August, Yono said, the number of HIV/AIDS cases had reached 333; 228 with HIV infections, 69 with AIDS, and 36 HIV/AIDS-related deaths.--JP
