Teachers connect through website

BOGOR: The Bogor education agency Thursday launched a website to facilitate communication among junior high and high school teachers who are part of the teacher association Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP).

Head of the mid-level education division, Ade Sarip Hidayat, said the association has been active in Bogor for years. They usually held a weekly meeting in which teachers of the same subjects gathered.

"In the meetings teachers usually assessed their teaching methods at their respective schools, but it wasn't effective because they usually got bored during the meeting. Absenteeism from school and lack of transportation money were other obstacles to effective meetings.

"The online program was put for those reasons," Ade said.

MGMP Online also could serve as a forum for teachers to share ideas on how to provide quality education.

A teacher from one junior high, SMP Negeri 19 Bogor, Adang Suhada, said the MGMP Online service was useful for communication among teachers.

"The program enables us to discuss many aspects of our subject," the math teacher said. --JP
