The Corruption Court is scheduled to hand down its verdict in the graft of non-active Medan mayor Abdillah, who is charged with stealing more than RP 54 billion (US$5.8 million) of state money, on Monday.
Head judge Edward Pattinasarani begun the final session of the trial, in which the panel of judges read their legal analysis over the case, at 10.00 a.m. at the court building in Kuningan, South Jakarta.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has demanded eight-year imprisonment for Abdillah, who is accused embezzling Rp 50.5 billion from the regional budget and Rp 3.6 billion in a fire engine purchase.
Abdillah, who has been mayor since 2000, is accused of misappropriating the regional secretary's annual budget from 2002 to 2006, assisted by former regional secretary and deputy mayor, Ramli, and several officials at the secretary office.
Ramli, who is also charged on separately trial, is facing five years in jail, as demanded by the KPK prosecutors. (dre)
