The government will punish 14 companies in West and Central Java failing to provide insurance for their workers, thus violating the Labor Law.
Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Erman Suparno told
The Jakarta Post on Tuesday that most of the companies were engaged in cigarette and textile industry. One of the companies is state-owned, he said.
"I have written letter to the minister for state enterprises to give warnings to the companies."
Erman, however, declined to disclose the companies' names. "I better not (do that). Let us handle the matter first," he said.
The minister said he gave the companies several months to fulfill their obligation to their workers before he would give harsher punishment. (dre)

Dear Minister of Manpower and Transmigration, it is 'MANDATORY' by labor laws that all workers are to be provided with proper insurance.
The companies concerned should be penalized without giving warnings. It is your job to ensure that all employer are in line with the labor laws.
Please take note, safety and health are also part of the employer concern.
