House of Representatives' Commission VII, overseeing energy affairs, has voted eight members for the newly established National Energy Board (DEN).

Forty-eight commission members voted Wednesday for eight members out of the 16 candidates, who previously underwent fit and proper tests.

The members of the new board are:

  • Rinaldy Dalimi and Tumiran, both professors of electrical engineering at University of Indonesia and Gajah Mada University respectively and representing the academic world;
  • Eddie Widiono, chairman of a national team on energy saving, and energy analyst Herman Darnel Ibrahim, both representing the energy industry;
  • Widjajono Partowidagdo, representing technology engineering experts;
  • Mukhtasor, representing environment experts;
  • Agusman Effendi and Herman Agustiawan, representing the energy consumer.

Under the newly enacted Energy Law, the government is required to set up a National Energy Board charged with monitoring the implementation of national energy policy, and determining the steps needed to overcome possible obstacles and the threat of future energy crises.

The board will be chaired by the President, and will have 15 members, including seven ministers. (dre)
