Forum: Book that irks Muslims

As a Muslimah, I regret that so many fellow Muslims are so defensive. I don’t see the necessity of pulling a book from the market just because the worry of the “uproars from Muslims”, just as I also don’t see the reason why Muslims should be angry if people write “offensive things” about Muhammad.

If you’re secure enough in your faith and you have enough knowledge about it, you shouldn’t worry about any negative materials about it.

People write books about the failure of church all the time and how the Bible has changed a lot from its original scriptures, yet there will always be devoted Christians and writers who write how divine Christianity is.

As is with Islam. There will always be people who write how dangerous Koran is and how “demented” Muhammad was, yet there will always be devoted Muslims and people who write how divine Islam is.

So if such a book of “hatred” is ever published, I suggest to my fellow Muslims to not get emotional. Let’s just explain calmly, based on knowledge and fact, why such claims could be considered biased and therefore not true.

It’s time for people to get past emotional response to such religious accusations.

Khadijah, you are right. It’s because most Muslims don’t treat their faith like a religion — they treat it more like a gang. When a Muslim meets someone new they always ask what’s your religion.

You never see any other faiths asking someone what’s is their religion as soon as they meet. I take for example when my neighbor moved, the first thing my driver said is “he is a Muslim”.

Dear Jakarta Post, please accept my view to make it more balance.
Some people out there do really have bad intention about Islam and its followers. They do not really understand the substance, but keep conveying inaccurate message. And they look enjoying it behind the shield of free expressions. The problem is those people are saying wrong, inaccurate infos, biased, imbalance, provoke hatred instead of conveying the truth. Let us look at satanic versus, cartoon case and fitna. Don't you think these stuffs are humiliation? Let's give the analysis portion to experts. I believe they are with me. I disagree with the idea of selling humiliation books/films to public.

Well, the solution is tolerance from both sides. Let us underline from both sides, not single-sided.
