JAKARTA: The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) presented its outsourced and support staff with holiday packages on Thursday.
The anti-graft body's spokesman Johan Budi SP said the 330 recipients were cleaners, security officers, office boys and drivers.
The parcels, valued at Rp 150,000 (US$16) each, contained basic necessities, including sugar, cooking oil and rice.
"KPK staff voluntarily collected money to provide the parcels," Johan said.
KPK chairman Antasari Azhar said he had been worried the decision would violate article 12(B) of the Anti-Corruption Law. "Apparently it did not," he said.
He urged state officials to pay more attention to their staff and to obey a law that stipulates that a state official can be sentenced to a maximum life imprisonment or be fined up to Rp 1 billion if found guilty of receiving gratuity.
Antasari told state officials that incidents of receiving gratuity should be reported to the KPK within 30 days of the incident. -- JP
