The city administration and the environmental management agency (BPLHD) will expand area covered by the "car free day" program to Jl. Rasuna Said, Kuningan, an official says.

The road will be closed to private cars, motorcycles, taxis and three-wheeled vehicles from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. such as already been implemented every Sunday on Sudirman-Thamrin route.

The agency reported Friday that it was necessary to expand the area so as to reduce air pollution in the city.

The new arrangement will take effect on Oct. 12. The agency said the empty spaces on Jl Rasuna will be used by sporting activities, exhibitions and public entertainment.

According to an official from the agency, on Aug. 31 the car- free day initiative reduced dust pollution by 15.31 percent and carbon monoxide by 58.66 percent.
