Parking revenues to fall over Idul Fitri

DENPASAR: Revenues from city-owned parking company PD Parkir Denpasar are projected to drop by 20 percent during the weeklong national holiday from Sept. 28 to Oct. 5 in conjunction with Idul Fitri celebrations, an official said Friday.

The revenues, which on ordinary days reach Rp 30 million (US$3,210) per day, will likely drop to Rp 22 million per day during the holidays, said Nyoman Gde Sudiantara, the company's president.

He attributed the sharp drop to the many migrant workers, who will go to their hometowns out of Bali to celebrate Idul Fitri with their families and ask for forgiveness from their parents and elderly relatives.

The exodus of the residents will force many offices and schools, which contribute a large amount to parking revenues, to close down, said I Made Erwin Suryadharma, spokesman of the Denpasar municipality administration. -- JP
