JAKARTA: Actress-cum-activist Rieke Dyah Pitaloka was questioned by the national police on Thursday as a witness in the fuel rally riot case.
Rieke was grilled with 37 questions for about three hours about her statements on the government’s policy to raise fuel prices in a meeting on April 24, prior to a student protest that led to a riot in June.
“It seems they regarded the most important (statement I made) was when I said we didn’t need a leader who cried when watching (the movie) Ayat-ayat Cinta,” Rieke was quoted as saying by detik.com.
The 34-year-old actress, who rose to fame through her role as Oneng on the popular TV comedy Bajaj Bajuri, said the meeting only discussed plans to commemorate 10 years of Reformasi and the 100-year anniversary of National Awakening.
Rieke, who has starred in several films, including award-winning Berbagi Suami (Husband for Share), said police questioned her mostly about demands for the government to cancel its decision to raise fuel prices and to lower staple food prices, and the involvement of former coordinating minister for the economy Rizal Ramli in
the rally.
Rieke, who produced and played in the monologue Perempuan Menggugat Malam (Women Sue the Night), which was staged in Jakarta, Bandung and Banda Aceh, said police played her a tape of the conversation during
the meeting.
