A Jakarta-Surabaya route train derailed off its track at Manggarai train station in East Jakarta on Sunday morning, disrupting railway services in the city for three hours.
Achmad Sujadi, a spokesperson for state railway company PT Kereta Api, said a passanger train Argo Anggrek serving the Jakarta-Surabaya route had two of its 10 cars derailed when the train was arriving at Manggarai after a night trip from Surabaya.
Several trains scheduled to carry homeward bound passengers for the Idul Fitri holiday, including 11 exectuive class trains, had to be delayed because of the incident, Achmad said as quoted by Tempointeraktif.com.
“All trains had to queue to enter the stations because one of the tracks was not available due to the incident," he said.
There were no fatalities in the accident and the rest of Argo Anggrek cars managed to arrive at Gambir station.
Achmad said that the company would need at least five hours to repair the damage on the track.(dre)
