JAKARTA: A domestic worker intending to go home to Kroya in Cilacap, Central Java, was robbed Saturday by a motorcycle taxi driver on the way to the Jatinegara train station in East Jakarta.

Jatik, the 26-year-old who worked in Jatiwaringin, lost her Rp 400,000 two-month salary after the driver threatened her with a knife near the Jatibening turnpike in East Jakarta.

Local residents took her to the Jatinegara police station after the incident.

The station will provide Jatik with a letter of advice to allow her to travel home free of charge, said head of the Jatinegara police Adj. Sriyanto, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com on Sunday. "We will notify the train officer," he added.

In addition to helping Jatik, the Jatinegara police also arrested two women accused of pickpocketing: Dewi from Ciamis, West Java, and Dian, from Rangkasbitung in Banten.

The women allegedly operated by using a boxcutter to slash open victims' bags, pilfering cellular phones, wallets and cameras, which were then sold to fences operating in markets such as Mal Pondok Gede in East Jakarta. --JP
