Lola Amaria prepares new movie

JAKARTA: Actress-cum-director/producer Lola Amaria is busy preparing a new movie about an Indonesian girl working in Hong Kong.

“I’m preparing the movie now. It’s about an Indonesian female migrant worker in Hong Kong. The movie, titled Hong Kong Rhapsody, is a love story,” Lola was quoted as saying by detik.com on Sunday.

Lola, who was born on July 30, 1977, said she was interested in producing the movie to highlight the lives of Indonesian migrant workers in Hong Kong, which were very different to the lives of migrant workers in other countries.

“In Hong Kong, female migrant workers are not regarded as pembantu (maids) but as part of the family. They are respected,” said the woman who gain popularity through her role in the 2002 film Ca Bau Kan.

Besides directing the movie, Lola will also play Lasti, the lead character.

Lola who began her widescreen career when she starred in Tabir (Curtain) and Dokoritsu in 2000, became a producer for the first time in 2004 with Novel Tanpa Huruf R (Novel Without the Letter R), a film she also acted in. In the same year, she directed Betina (Female), which won her a Netpac Award at the 2006 Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival.

Shooting for Hong Kong Rhapsody will take place in December 2008, with the film expected to be released in August 2009. — JP
