BANDUNG, W. Java: The Bandung office of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) ran out of blood supplies 10 days ago, prompting officials to tell those needing blood to bring their own donors to the PMI office.
Bandung PMI spokeswoman Rahayu Nurdin said Monday the office had made known the situation to all hospitals in the city.
Bandung PMI normally needs about 300 to 400 sacks of blood per day.
Rahayu said PMI officials had tried meeting the demand, which usually spikes ahead of the Idul Fitri holidays, when many road accidents occur.
"We often face such situations during the fasting month when people are reluctant to donate their blood because they are afraid of getting weak," she said.
"The condition would turn to normal 10 days after the Idul Fitri holidays." -- JP
