The government estimates that on-land travel back to Jakarta from various parts of Java and Sumatra will peak on Saturday and Sunday.
Director General of Land Transportations Iskandar Abubakar said travelers must be prepared to face possible traffic jams at two locations: Kanci-Losari toll road in Cirebon and Nagrek area in West Java.
Bottleneck at the tollboths at Kanci-Losari toll road would be responsible for possible traffic jams at the entrance of the toll road as well as at its exit.
Meanwhile, possible traffic jams in Nagrek is because of the steep uphill road.
"Ideally, an uphill road should have an elevation rate of 8 percent, but in Nagrek, the elevation reaches 18 percent," Iskandar told Tempointeraktif.com. He added that every 1 percent of elevation would reduce road capacity by about 3 percent.
Worse, Nagrek sees two railroads that cross each other. This will add to traffic density in the area. (rid)
