JAKARTA: With a relatively minor role in the newly released film Laskar Pelangi (Rainbow Warrior), senior actor Alex Komang said he was satisfied with the movie and gave it two thumbs up.

He also praised director Riri Riza and producer Mira Lesmana for “giving a good present to country’s audience”.

“The idea of the movie is strong. It’s about a common struggle. A movie should have a strong moral idea. This is what we dream about...,” Alex, who won the Indonesian Film Festival (FFI) Award for the best actor in 1987, told The Jakarta Post on Friday.

In Laskar Pelangi, Alex plays a fisherman who dies at sea.

“The thing is not how big or how small your role is. No matter how small a role is, it has its own value. It’s up to us to make the role valuable,” said the man whose real name Syaiful Nuha.

Alex, who was born in Jepara, Central Java on Dec. 17, 1961, said there were many good Indonesian movies released recently, but that Laskar Pelangi was among the few films that “gives you something to think about”. — JP/Matheos Viktor Messakh

I have read the book and watched the movie, unfortunately I'm not quiet happy with the movie cos it didn't give me a strong feeling as the book did..some of the movie's fragment weren't in line with what has been written on the book..

Min,
Well, actually i haven't read the book, but i know the story of that, from my wife & from kick andy show. I think it was a amazing story. But sorry, i couldn't get the feel in the movie.

I have read the book, and i also have watched the movie. I think i enjoyed reading the book more rather than seeing the movie. The movie did not capture the struggle, dramatization, or the feeling of the story at all.
I was dissapointed.

YFK Didinong,

Care to elaborate further the reason you don't agree that the movie "give us something to think about"?

I love the film and agree with Alex. I read the book previously and I enjoyed the film so much.

I think the film was good. But it was not good enough to "give you something to think about".

i haven't found yet, someone who discuss about the lackness of the film laskar pelangi. is it because really that good? i guess not.

I appreciate to Riri Reza, Mira Lesmana, and Alex Komang for their valuable performances and the best monumental Indonesian movies in the year 2008.
