Japan's new leader plans to hold talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao when he visits Beijing later this month, Kyodo news agency reported Sunday.
Prime Minister Taro Aso, a former foreign minister, will meet with the Chinese leaders during a trip to the Asia-Europe Meeting in the Chinese capital on Oct. 24-25. The two countries are finalizing details, Kyodo said.
Government officials were unavailable for comment Sunday.
Japan-China relations were frosty under former Prime Minster Junichiro Koizumi but have markedly improved since then.
Aso's immediate predecessor, Yasuo Fukuda, visited China twice during his year in office. Hu traveled to Japan in May, becoming the first Chinese president to visit the country in decade.
