Less than half of Jakarta's holidaymakers had returned to the capital by Monday, according to the city's population and civil registration agency.
Around 1.5 million out of 3.2 million have returned, Edison Sianturi, head of supervision and control at the agency, said.
The agency has been observing people's movements at 33 entry points around the city, including Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang and Tanjung Priok Seaport in North Jakarta, Edison said.
He said the number was lower than the agency's original expectation.
"The Idul Fitri influx peak happened on Saturday and Monday. We expected to 2.7 million to return to the city by Monday," he said as quoted by Tempointeraktif.com.
The agency predicts, with the current rate, the influx will not stop until Wednesday.
"Many schools are still on holiday until next Monday. Parents to extend their vacation," he said. (dre)
