President chairs cabinet meeting on financial crisis

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono commenced a special Cabinet plenary meeting at the State Secretariat office on Monday afternoon to discuss steps to face the global financial crisis.
The meeting was attended by around 100 participants, including economic ministers, central bank officials, Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry bankers, economist, banking circles and business players.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla was also scheduled to attend the meeting, but he was not present when the meeting began at 2 p.m.. Kalla was reportedly on a flight from Makassar.
On Sunday, acting Coordinating Minister for the Economy Sri Mulyani Indrawati said the meeting was aimed at preparing Indonesia for a prolonged global economic crisis that was prompted by a shortage of liquidity in the U.S. economy. (dre)
