JAKARTA: Two unidentified men stole a total of Rp 160 million (US$17,204) in jewelry and U.S. dollar bills from a house in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, on Friday.

"They came to the house as guests ... They said they had come to order clothes," said Mulyono, 28, the live-in domestic helper at the house.

He said his employer, a garment businessman, who he identified only as Robert, was on holiday and had left him alone to guard the house.

The perpetrators arrived at the house on motorcycles at 9:30 pm. One of the men asked Mulyono if he could use the bathroom before leaving. Mulyono gave him permission, and stayed with the other men in the front hallway.

When the men had left, the servant saw that the previously locked master bedroom was open and that the room had been ransacked.

He reported that the men had stolen jewelry worth Rp 100 million and cash in U.S. dollars equal to Rp 60 million, Tempointeraktif.com reported.

Pasar Minggu Police chief Comr. Maryoto said Friday the police were still identifying suspects. -- JP
