Many unknown producers today are intensively promoting their drugs claiming to boost male virility, so consumers should be careful and avoid taking such medications without first consulting the medical profession.
Some of these products, mixed with sildenafil citrate, were withdrawn from circulation last year because sildenafil for erectile dysfunction is in potent drugs which are only available through a prescription.
Without heeding its indication, sildenafil may be harmful. For instance, patients taking nitrate medications for heart treatment must not consume sildenafil because the two chemicals can cause a sharp drop in blood pressure.
Other drugs contain methyl testosterone, which may cause an excess of this hormone in the body and thus disturb liver functions or even increase the risk of cancer, unless they are consumed as indicated.
Consumers should not be misled by drug labels claiming to be "sildenafil free" either. University research has shown that such drugs often contain sildenafil or its derivatives. If there is any doubt, information can be obtained from the Food and Drugs Monitoring Agency (BPOM).
