The Papua province administrator has submitted a proposal to the House of Representative for 30 percent of Rp 18 trillion (US$1.89 billion) annual tax paid by PT Freeport be paid to the local government.
"Papua has implemented its special autonomy, this should lead to special attention given to local revenue potentials," Alex Hesegem, the province's deputy governor, said Tuesday.
PT Freeport Indonesia runs a gold and copper concession area in Papua.
Alex said Jakarta had approved the proposal, but was still waiting for sanction from the House. (dre)
