One car of a commuter train on the Serpong-Tanah Abang route caught fire in Palmerah at around noon Wednesday. The train stopped immediately.

The fire was put out shortly after. No passengers were injured in the incident.

According to train operator Pardjiman, the eight-car train was leaving Palmerah train station at 15 kilometers per hour when fire sparks were seen on the seventh car.

"All of the passengers, around 400 of them, were surprised but none of them panicked or jump off the train," he said as quoted by Kompas.com.

At the time of writing, the train was still stopped about a hundred meters from Palmerah station. A train company officer said the incident caused an hour delay to Serpong-Tanah Abang
schedules. (dre)
