JAKARTA: The House of Representatives special committee on the porn bill will hold public hearings in regions that have strongly opposed the bill, a legislator has said.
Agung Sasongko of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) said Tuesday the committee would hold public hearings in Denpasar (Bali), Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara), Jayapura (Papua) and Manado (North Sulawesi).
"So far, public hearings have only been carried out in regions that support the bill, resulting in a deceptive perception of public acceptance," he said.
"Therefore, feedback from other people from other areas is needed to balance the issue and improve the draft of the bill," he added.
The dates for the hearings have yet to be confirmed.
The House postponed passing the bill last month following nationwide criticism. The committee has said it needs to extend the deliberation period to discuss public opinions. -- JP
