KUPANG, E. Nusa Tenggara: An employee of the Marilonga Ende branch of Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) in East Nusa Tenggara, identified only as A, allegedly stole Rp 500 million (US$55,555) when the bank's officers were on leave.

The bank had reported the theft to police, bank chief Albert Wahyudi said Saturday.

Ende Police are now searching for the bank employee, who reportedly fled the city with her husband.

Other bank employees speculated that A had taken the money Friday, the day the bank's chief announced the Idul Fitri community leave. The suspect and her husband then left the day after she took the money.

Police have raided the suspect's home on Jl. Kokos Raya, Ende, seizing several documents.

Mince, A's domestic worker, said A and her husband had left Saturday morning via Aroebusman Ende airport, taking two pieces of luggage.

Mince said that three days before her departure, A asked her to burn all her documents. --JP
