About 100 taxis operating at the Soekarno-Hatta International Aiport are illegal, the City's Trade and Industry Agency uncovered Thursday.
A recent raid discovered most of them were caught either using illegal faremeters or expired licenses.
"These offenses carry a penalty of up to a year's imprisonment or a Rp 1 million fine," Agency head Nurachman said, as quoted by Tempointeraktif.com
All taxi vehicles caught operating illegally were immediately confiscated along with the faremeters.
Most of the vehicles belonged to a company name Diamond. The rest included Borobudur Taxi, Gading, Royal City, Celebrity, Primajasa, Express and Blue Bird.
Nurachman said all confiscated faremeters were reported to the police for further processing.
