House member Dradjad turns singer

JAKARTA: While many celebrities are trying to become politicians, a House of Representatives member is turning the other way by trying to become a celebrity.
Member of the House’s commission XI overseeing financial affairs, Dradjad H. Wibowo, said Wednesday he would launch a single, “Tuan di Rumah Sendiri” (Masters of Our Own House), in late October.
The video clip of the song was shot at Mount Bromo, East Java.
“The song is an expression of aspiration,” said Dradjad, who has decided to quit the House when his term ends in 2009.
So far, he has recorded 10 songs with social themes. Erros Chandra, the guitarist of famous Yogyakarta-based band Sheila on 7, has arranged all of the songs.
While he wrote all of the songs, Dradjad said he sang only four. “I can’t sing some songs. My voice is not good enough.”
Therefore, he chose other singers, whom he found in several cafes. “I sent my team to find suitable singers to sing my songs.”
Before he recorded his vocals, Dradjad was guided by a vocal coach from Elfa Secioria. Elfa’s choir was involved in some songs as the backing vocals. — JP/Aditya Suharmoko
