The Indonesian government plans to plant about 100 million trees within about a month's time starting Nov. 28 as part of its program to mark 100 years of National Awakening, a cabinet minister said Thursday.
"President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will declare Nov. 28 as Indonesia's Planting Day. As part of the 100 years of National Awakening celebration about 100 million trees will be planted across the country," Forestry Minister M.S. Kaban told Antara.
Kaban said the Planting Day would be launched in ceremony in Banten, where 100,000 trees would be planted on 250 hectares of land.
Each province, he said, would also plant trees on at least 100,000 hectares of land.
About 60 percent of the total trees would be hard wood trees. The government has prepares Rp280 billion (about US$29 million) funds to procure 100 million tree seedlings. (dre)

that is a good program. but it likely to be not usefull and wasting money if such program will not be accompanied by treatment program. particularly at the process of growing up the trees. because seedling is really volatile. I think we experienced enough in such program fails. therefore to prevent unwanted things we are not only need to plant but also to keep trees alive ever after.

This initiative by the Indonesian Government is to be commended, but must be coupled with effective law enforcement to ensure these trees and existing forests are properly protected.

Plant 100 Million is a very easy job. Preserving after Planting is the real job. Really hope that we are going to preserve them after planting, so the money for buying and plant the trees will be truly bring the benefit for environment.

The idea is perfect, but besides planting trees, the Government should impose a law forbiding the illegal logging that has caused much destruction, floods, and polution.

This is wonderful news - congratulations to the Indonesian government for realizing how important trees are to their environment. Hopefully, the long-range goal is to allow these trees to become a protected ongoing forest, providing a natural habitat for the wonderful diversity of wildlife in Indonesia.
Termia kasih!
