Hundreds of residents form Mimika, Papua, rallied at the Regional House Representative office urging law enforcers to charge former Mimika regent with embezzling the regency budget, on Thursday.
The mass, who called themselves the Mimika People United Solidarity, said that former regent Klemen Tinal embezzled Rp 90 billion (US$9.45 million) from the regency budget during his tenure in 2001-2006.
They claimed Klemen's family and several member regional legislator were implicated in the corruption.
During the rally, participants also handed a letter to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, requesting law enforcers and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigate other corrupt Papuan officials. (dre)
