JAKARTA: The lead lawyer for Time magazine, Todung Mulya Lubis, said Thursday his client's request for a review of the Supreme Court's ruling has yet to be responded to by the court.
"We filed the request for review in February," he said, referring to the lawsuit by the late former president Soeharto against Time Inc. Asia.
The May 24, 1999, edition of Time reported on the wealth and alleged corruption of Soeharto and his family. Time won the case at the district court level, but the ruling was annulled by the Supreme Court. It ordered Time to pay the Soeharto family Rp 1 trillion (US$104.17 million) in damages and to publish apologies three times each in 15 local and international publications.
"We're concerned about a further delay of the decision", Todung said, citing the potential for self-censorship regarding sensitive press coverage. -- JP
