JAKARTA: Film producer Mira Lesmana says that her latest production, Laskar Pelangi (Rainbow Warrior), has attracted 1.3 million viewers since its premiere on Sept. 25.
And she is upbeat the number won't stop there.
"The number (of viewers) will continue to climb because the film has not been screened in all areas. We plan on screening the film in 22 cities," she was quoted as saying by Antara on Wednesday.
Laskar Pelangi is a film based on the best-selling novel of the same title by Andrea Hirata, which depicts the life of poor children struggling to gain an education.
The film, which cost Rp 8 billion (about US$888,900) to make, has won praise from audiences, including President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who watched the film at Blitz Megaplex with some of his ministers on Wednesday night.
Mira said the film's crew would go on tour to regions to meet Laskar Pelangi fans.
"We had to postpone the roadshow because of Lebaran. We have arranged the new schedule and will kick off the tour at Bangka Belitung," said the producer of other box-office successes Ada Apa dengan Cinta? (What's Up with Cinta?) and Petualangan Sherina (Sherina's Adventure). -- JP
