DENPASAR: A joint team in charge of law and order in Denpasar city has netted 65 people for not carrying their identity cards, an official said Wednesday.
"This joint operation was launched to anticipate an increase in newcomers without ID cards after the Idul Fitri holidays," said Kadek Kesuma Adiputra, head of the joint team.
The team, which consists of officers from the village and district offices and the law and order office, launched the operation at Sekuta, Sanur, on Wednesday.
"Thirty-three of those netted were from other cities in Bali and the other 32 were from cities outside Bali," Adiputra said, adding that under Regional Regulation No. 14/2002, all citizens are required to carry their ID card at all times.
Those from other cities in Bali have been living in Denpasar for a long time, but have not had their identity cards processed in Denpasar, he said.
"Running the operation after Idul Fitri is not intended to discourage newcomers from visiting Denpasar, but to get more accurate data on the population," said Adiputra, who was accompanied by South Denpasar district head IB Wiradana.
All of those found without ID cards were asked to report to the local village office, Adiputra said.
"Nobody was sent back to their hometowns," he added. -- JP
