DENPASAR: The Denpasar administration will introduce city zoning ordinances to regulate the number and placement of political banners in order to prevent disputes among parties, an official said Friday.
The decision to regulate the banners was decided in a meeting attended by representatives from the departments of law and order, parks and sanitation, the Bali chapter of the General Elections Commission (KPUD) the administration's secretary, Nyoman Aryana said.
If there are no regulations, it is feared that Denpasar would be covered by banners for the upcoming elections for regency and provincial legislative councils, the House of Representatives and the Regional Representatives' Council, Aryana said.
Anarchy is also a concern, as in certain areas there will be more than one candidate, further explaining why a zoning regulation had been introduced, he added.
Any political signage in violation of the zoning ordinances will be confiscated, he said. - JP
