Representatives of the Indonesian Fine Arts Institute (ISI) Denpasar campus came to an agreement with regional leaders on Friday that will see the reopening of the campus.

Tape seals, which have been strung across the campus in a symbolic move, will be removed.

Chairman of the dialogue forum, Denpasar Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Alit Widhana said after the meeting, held at Denpasar City Hall, that regional leaders did not side with either ISI faction, engaged in a dispute over the institute's new rector.

In line with a proposal from student representatives and with the approval of both camps, the seals covering campus rooms will be removed by students, with guidance from police, Widhana said.

"There was no comprehensive agreement between parties at the meeting, except to remove the seals. All classrooms, libraries and other sections will be open-ed by the students themselves. We will just main-tain security in the process," he said.

The removal of the seals means learning and teach-ing activities can resume, he said.

He further explained that the outcome of the meeting would be reported to the Bali Police chief and Bali governor. Further meetings will be held to reach a more comprehensive settlement.

Widhana asked that the minutes of the dialogue be disclosed publicly. If there is a breach of the agreement that violates existing regulations he will not hesitate to take action, he said.

A call for reconciliat-ion was voiced by the Denpasar administration secretary, Nyoman Aryana, who said all parties should help create a conducive situation in Denpasar and through-out Bali.

Aryana hopes the two warring camps will be able to set aside their own interests. "There must be a feeling of open heartedness. What's the use of becoming a rector if the students of the campus reject you?" he asked.

"Settle it internally and don't sacrifice the educational process. This is in the interest of Bali's future."

Despite the agreement, representatives of the two conflicting camps sat through the forum without communicating.
