At least 10,000 bamboo torches lit up the Bali bombing monument in Kuta on Sunday evening in recognition of the sixth anniversary of the bombing that killed more than 200 people.

The touch parade began at 7 p.m., and was accompanied by Bleganjur traditional music and was joined not only by dozens of family members of bomb victims, but also by tourists and locals, Antara news agency reported.

The parade caused traffic jams around Kuta beach as police closed roads leading to the monument.

Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika said the provincial administration had not prepared anything for the commemoration, and that it was entirely a community initiative.

The torch parade would be followed by prayers at the site of the bombing at 11.15 p.m. -- the exact time the bombing occurred. (rid)
